2010 Summer Camps

              2010 Summer Camps           

July 19 to August 6, 2010

Campers will experience a fun, engaging, multi-sensory method to learn the fundamentals of handwriting. Proper handwriting is essential to succeed in school. Our goal is to equip children with the necessary tools to write with confidence and ease. The end result is better academic performance. A wide range of methods will be used to obtain this goal of good handwriting habits and skills to an automatic level.

Printing 101:This camp emphasizes pencil grasp development, letter formation using the award winning Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum and multi-sensory strategies. This class is for beginner printers and for students who have difficulty with sequencing letters, writing within handwriting spaces, and/or with forming letters.  This is a three-hour a day class for 8 sessions. The cost is $325, which includes the camp cost, initial assessment, workbook/material fees, plus a free private follow-up review session. Date: 7.19, 7.20, 7.21, 7.22, 7.26, 7.27, 7.28, & 7.29. Time: 9am to 12pm

Number Reversal Class: This camp is specially geared to correct number reversal in one short session. Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum and multi-sensory strategies will be used to obtain this goal.  This is a two-hour class. The cost is $50, which includes the camp cost, material fees, plus a parent training session. Date: 7.30 Time: 10am to 12pm

Sentence Adventures: Uses Handwriting Without Tears’ Sentence School™ curriculum to teach vocabulary, grammar, and sentence construction. This class is designed to introduce kindergarten children these skills. Hands on multi-sensory lessons and activities will be used to engage the children. This will be a 1.5-hour class for 8 sessions. The cost is $200, which includes the camp cost, initial assessment, and material fees. Dates: 7.20, 7.22, 7.27, 7.29, 8.3, 8.5, 8.10, & 8.12 Time: 3:30pm to 5pm

Visual Motor Adventures: This camp works on visual motor readiness!  Children will work on drawing a person and shapes. Students will work on coloring, to strengthen manipulation of a pencil while improving pencil/crayon control.  Scissor skills will also be addressed in this camp.  Students must be able to focus while participating in a small group.  A visual motor screening will be performed both pre and post the camp session. This class is ideal for preschoolers to 1st graders who have difficulty with visual motor type activities.  This will be a 1.5-hour class for 4 sessions. The cost is $150, which includes the camp cost, initial assessment, material fees and a fine motor/visual motor kit for use at home. Dates: 7.20, 7.22, 7.27, & 7.29. Time: 1pm to 2:30

Cursive 101: This camp teaches cursive letters formation using Mary Benbow, MS, OTR/L’s Loops and Other Groups: A Kinesthetic Writing System. Letters are taught in groups that share common movement patterns. Easy-to-remember motor and memory cues help the children visualize and verbalize while they experience the “feel” of the letter. Lower case letters will only be addressed in this camp. This is a 3-hour a day class for 6 sessions. The cost is $275, which includes the camp cost, initial assessment, workbook/material fees, plus a free follow-up review session. Dates: 7.19, 7.21, 7.23, 7.26, 7.28, & 7.30. Time: 1pm to 4pm

Wii TM Write Together: This camp is a one-week camp geared to solidifying correct letter formation, while working on speed and accuracy with both printing and cursive handwriting. The Wii™  will be utilized to improve eye-hand coordination and provide motivation for writing. Mary Benbow’s Loops and Other Groups: A Kinesthetic Writing System and Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum and multi-sensory strategies will be utilized. This is a 5-hour a day class for 5 sessions. The cost is $325, which includes the camp cost, workbook/material fees plus a free follow-up review session.  This camp also provides extended hours, before and after camp.  Dates: 8.2 to 8.6 Time: 10am to 3pm

The registration deadline is July 2, 2010.  Camps will be held at my home office in the North Kenwood Area of Chicago, just minutes from the Hyde Park. Please call to schedule specific times and dates.  Saturday classes are available upon request with camp under 2 hours in length. Private individual sessions are on going during summer. Please call for availability. Sibling discount and multiple class reduce rates are also available.
